Typical requirements

• The employer holds a genuine, approved Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) — or the role qualifies for an LMIA-exempt route (e.g. International Mobility Program).
• “LMIA requested” or “LMIA in progress” is not the same as approved. Always ask the employer directly for their current LMIA status before making any plans.
• You meet the occupation's skill and education requirements listed by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
• For regulated roles (nursing, teaching, skilled trades), you'll also need the relevant provincial licence or certification — this is separate from the LMIA.
