Overview
Role: Accounting Associate Reports to: Manager (Finance) Location: Nairobi, Kenya About 637 Capital 637 Capital is a Nairobi-based company that develops software and provides consulting services. The company has developed JibuDocs, an AI-enabled document digitization tool that fully automates the process of digitizing documents and extracting value from them. 637 Capital also combines its expertise in software development and financial advisory to deliver a comprehensive suite of services. These include business planning and financial modeling, financial and technical due diligence, capital sourcing, and deal structuring. Some of their clients include an Embu-based world-leading macadamia nut processor, and a luxury safari lodge located in the Maasai Mara. Role Summary You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial records and reporting, managing payroll, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will also support financial planning and analysis by analysing financial data, identifying trends and making strategic recommendations. A high level of communication is essential, as you will work closely with the Directors and portfolio companies to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records. Main Responsibilities Financial Accounting & Record Management • Ensure accurate and timely data entry • Maintain and review purchase and sales accounts • Manage cash, bank, and petty cash transactions, including obtaining necessary approvals • Perform bank reconciliations on a timely basis • Perform general ledger and fixed asset reconciliations at the end of each month • Maintain an up-to-date fixed asset register and ensure it reconciles with the fixed asset general ledger account • Prepare financial reports for various entities Payroll Management • Prepare and submit statutory deductions • Ensure all staff salaries, wages, and expense claims are approved and paid on time Management Reporting • Prepare the trial balance, balance sheet, and monthly management accounts • Prepare financial reports, including analyses of actual vs budget performance, financial ratios, and KPIs Tax Management • Prepare and maintain accurate VAT records • Prepare and file VAT returns and withholding VAT returns in a timely manner • Ensure all taxes applicable to the business are filed and paid on time Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field • Minimum of 2 - 4 years’ of experience in accounting, audit, or finance operations • ACCA/CPA qualification, or in the final stages of completion • Experience in filing and managing taxes for multiple clients • Experience with an ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) • Proficiency in Excel (intermediate level), including the ability to perform data analysis; familiarity with advanced Excel is an advantage • Experience with financial and controls audit is desirable • Experience in a Big Four accounting firm is an added advantage • Working knowledge of financial modelling and 3-statement linkages • Fluency in English is required. Kenyan nationality is preferred, or candidates must have legal authorization to work in Kenya.
